What we actually do
Repair what’s repairable, replace what’s done
Half of “failed” gutters are a joint that needs re-seating, a bracket that’s let go, or a run that’s lost its fall. That’s a repair, and it gets quoted as one, realigned, re-clipped, re-jointed, tested with a bucket of water before we leave.
When the plastic’s gone brittle and chalky, or the fascia behind it is rotten, patching is throwing money away, new uPVC fascia, soffit and guttering is the honest answer, and it transforms how a house looks from the street.
We do the roofline as roofers, which matters: while the boards are off we can see the rafter ends and felt edge, problems that get hidden again for twenty years if the job’s done by someone who only sells plastic.

A joint re-seal and a full roofline are different jobs by an order of magnitude: the photo usually tells us which conversation to have.
Height and access
Ground-floor extension gutters are ladder work; three-storey rooflines need towers or scaffold, and that’s the biggest cost swing.
What’s behind the plastic
Rotten fascia or wet rafter ends change the scope. We state how that’s priced before boards come off.

A repair doesn’t come with a written warranty, and we tell you that before we start, not after it rains. If a repair isn’t worth doing, we’d rather say so.

Questions
Straight answers
Can you fix just one leaking joint?
Yes, and if that’s all it needs, that’s all we’ll quote. Gutter joints fail from age, movement and moss pressure; re-seating with new seals is a routine visit.
Do I need new gutters or a clean?
If water’s overflowing but the gutter’s intact, it’s probably blocked. See gutter cleaning. If it drips at joints, sags, or the fascia behind is going soft, it’s a repair-or-replace conversation. Send a photo and we’ll tell you which, straight.
Is uPVC the only option?
It’s the sensible default for most Croydon houses, low upkeep, decades of life. Cast-iron-style and deeper-flow systems exist for period looks and big roof areas; if your house warrants them we’ll say so in the options.
Will you check the roof edge while you’re up there?
Always: the bottom courses of tile and the felt edge live right behind the gutter, and they’re where cheap roofline jobs hide problems. If we see something, you get a photo and a straight answer, not a scare story.
